Monge food for dogs

Few breeders know the name of this manufacturer, but those who tried to feed the dog with diets of this brand agree that the food is good enough and suitable for dogs of all breeds. What kind of food is this, and how does it stand out from other manufacturers?

Monge was founded in 1963 in Italy, thanks to the business acumen of Baldassar Monge. The whole family's business was raising chickens for delivery to the best restaurants in Italy. In order to meet the highest standards of elite establishments, the Monge family farm used exclusively natural, environmentally friendly poultry feeds. The business grew and expanded, but Baldassar was haunted by one moment - after cutting the carcasses there was a lot of meat, cartilage and other offal. It was a pity to throw out these raw materials, and intuition prompted: valuable resources must be used somehow. And a solution was found - Monge dog food.

The first products were canned pet food. The concept of healthy food for dogs and cats implied that owners sincerely wish their pets a long years of healthy life, which means they want to feed them exclusively with natural and proper nutrition. This is exactly what the food from the Monge family factory was.

Monge dry food for dogs appeared much later. But in his recipe all the same natural high-quality meat is used. Today, the company continues to supply exclusive chicken to restaurants, but the production of pet food has become the main activity. There is not only production, but also its own research department, which is developing new recipes, taking into account the particular needs of pets.

Assortment of dog food Monge

As for the variety of diets, the Monge assortment will satisfy even the most capricious and demanding customers. If we summarize all the information from the official website of the company, we can conclude that at the moment breeders are available 23 varieties of wet dog food, and another 46 dry rations. An impressive amount in which it is quite easy to get lost to an inexperienced buyer. However, upon closer inspection, everything becomes very clear: all this mass of feed is divided into 6 main lines of dry rations, and another 4 lines of wet. And they, in turn, are subdivided by breed size, animal age, and special needs.

The wet feeds the company started with are represented by four lines: Monteproteico (with one source of animal protein), Fruit (with fruit added to the diet), Grill (with grilled meat), and Fresh (gluten-free diets for animals with allergies) .

All dry feeds are divided into:

  • Daily Line - feed for the daily nutrition of the dog. The assortment of rations for puppies and adult dogs with a division in size. There is also special nutrition for pregnant and lactating bitches, and old dogs.
  • Specialty Line - a food line designed for all breeds and sizes of the pet. A wide range of meat is used in the production: chicken, lamb, rabbit, pork, duck, as well as salmon meat. There are subclasses of Active, Light, Hypo - respectively for active dogs, overweight dogs, and hypoallergenic food.
  • Grainfree Line - food for dogs without crops. At the heart of ducklings with potatoes, or anchovies with potatoes.
  • BWild Line - a line of feeds that mimic natural nutrition. It is based on about 65% of meat ingredients, in addition - very unusual varieties of meat are used: boar, venison and ostrich.
  • Grainfree Veterinary is a grain-free feed designed specifically for animals with various problems. This line includes 8 rations, the action of which is aimed at maintaining the body during a period of illness or recovery from injuries and operations.

Thanks to the huge assortment, you can choose the perfect food for your dog. But what will be its basis, and is it so beneficial for the body, as the manufacturer claims? Let's take a closer look at the composition of Monge dog food.

Feed composition

For a detailed study of nutrients, we selected Daily Line food for medium-sized adult dogs. According to the company Monge, this is a complete feed of the superpemium class, suitable for the daily nutrition of the dog. Well, let's see what it's made of.

In the first place on the list is chicken meat, with 30% of dehydrated meat and 10% of fresh meat declared. The following are: rice, corn and animal fat. However, there is a note that it is 99.5% chicken fat, with the addition of natural antioxidants. The following components are called dry beet pulp and brewer's yeast. They are followed by corn flour, hydrolyzed animal protein and fish (dried salmon). Then declared fish oil (salmon oil), dried animal cartilage, dried crustaceans, methylsulfonylmethane, KOS and MOS, yucca Shidiger and spirulina.

Here is such a composition. In principle, superpremium for feed is very good, and therefore the reviews about Monge feed for dogs are mostly positive. Let's look at the guaranteed content:

  • Crude proteins: 26% (normal);
  • Fats: 14% (below average);
  • Fiber: 2.2% (not enough);
  • Ash content: 6.5% (within the normal range);
  • Calcium: 1.2%;
  • Phosphorus: 1%;
  • Omega-6: 5.2%;
  • Omega 3: 0.7%.

And here everything is very decent. Let us now examine in detail what is hidden behind these figures.

Chicken meat (30% dried + 10% fresh), hydrolyzed animal protein, and dry salmon are indicated as sources of protein in the feed. Chicken meat is an excellent ingredient, but it is worth remembering that raw meat will lose up to 70% of its mass in the form of water when processed. At the output, we get 30% + 3%, which is not so rosy, but still not bad.

Hydrolyzed protein is a raw material of deep processing, as a result of which, the substance does not carry anything useful except protein. It is most often used in feed to raise protein levels.

Salmon is a very useful component that carries a lot of positive substances. However, given the fact that salmon is listed below the middle of the composition, its quantity in the feed is small.

Chicken oil, preserved by antioxidants, and fish oil, obtained from salmon, are named as a source of lipids. Both nutrients are high quality sources of fat, very beneficial for dogs.

The amount of carbohydrates is not indicated, but we can understand what carries them. The list contains rice and corn, as well as cornmeal. All this is not very useful for dogs, because in the body of a predator cereals are practically not absorbed, and come out, let's say, in their original form. In fact, it is a simple filler added to reduce the cost of feed.

Additional components

Beetroot pulp is a source of fiber. It’s a controversial component, since eating this substance gives the dog nothing but a decorated stool.

Brewer's yeast is a useful supplement, a source of vitamins for the hair and skin of a pet. However, the presence of yeast in food can cause allergies in some dogs.

Hydrolyzed cartilage, and hydrolyzed crustaceans are uniquely useful, and one might say rare nutrients. These are high-quality sources of chondroitin and glucosamine - the most important substances that support healthy joints. A huge plus for feed.

Methylsulfonylmethane - a substance useful for the skin, joints and coat. Get it from algae and pine bark. A good component that increases the immunity of the animal.

CBS and MOC are abbreviations of the names of prebiotics that ensure normal digestion and healthy intestinal microflora. Good component.

Yucca Shidiger is a useful supplement, because thanks to its antibacterial properties, it helps to reduce the unpleasant smell of intestinal contents. It also has some other positive effects, such as: strengthening immunity, increasing tone, etc.

Spirulina is a healthy algae supplement. However, during processing, a significant part of the vitamins and minerals in it is lost.

Separately specified mineral and vitamin complexes containing all the necessary elements for the health of your pet.

Summing up the analysis of the composition, we can draw the following conclusion: due to the high content of high-quality meat components, as well as the inclusion of many useful additives, the Monge food can be safely attributed to the superpremium segment and recommended for animal nutrition.

Reviews of Monge Food

Due to the fact that dry feeds of this brand are produced relatively recently, and their distribution in our country is relatively poorly established, it is rather difficult to find reviews about dog food Monge. But as they say, it’s difficult - but possible! And so, having studied thematic forums, we have found for you some of the most characteristic opinions:

Elena, the husky breeder:

"They fed Eucanuba’s pets, but the high price forced them to look for another food. According to the advice on the forum, I bought a Monge bag, and I was not disappointed. Dogs eat food with obvious hunting, they feel great, the coat is overflowing. I can safely recommend it to everyone!"

Alexander, owner of the spaniel:

“My watchdog is not picky, but he won’t eat anything. I saw Monge’s food on the website of one online store and decided to take it for trial. Let's just say that I’m satisfied. The dog is healthy, active, and I don’t need anything else from stern."

Other reviews are essentially similar. Breeders mainly recommend these feeds, and only in the case of individual susceptibility of the dog, they leave not very encouraging opinions.

As for the reviews of veterinarians about Monge's food, we did not find them. Apparently, the whole point is in the small accumulated statistics, and in the future the opinions of specialists will appear in the public domain.

Feed price

You can view the current price of feed and buy it right here:
